Grow Up, Alice

I was so excited to share this shirt dress with you all today! Not only is it super comfortable from the organza fabric, but for some reason or another, it always puts me in the mood to go on an adventure. I love when certain clothes have the power to do that for you - just inspire you to do something particularly fun. So I entered a version of "Wonderland" for this piece, just so I can could convey to you guys how this dress made me feel on the inside!

How to Make a Headdress:
It's surprisingly so simple learning how to turn a scarf into a headress. It's one of my favorite head accessories to wear, so people are always asking me how I am able to create those looks out of a plain scarf. For the big bow look shown here, you'll need a rather large scarf. Fold it into a triangle, then place the scarf on your head with the top of the triangle facing the front of your head. Take the bottom two corners of the triangle and tie it into a bow (do not worry about the excess parts just yet). Once you've tied the bow, fluff it out to give it an enlarged look. Once you've done that, just take all the extra long pieces that are left and tuck them under the scarf. Now you've created a headdress!

Now let the adventure begin.
"Become whole again. I need to rest. You need to regain your human size. Grow up, Alice. Embrace the truth." - The Caterpillar
The Stares took me to Wonderland today. Where will you let them take you? "We're all vulnerable. Mix the wrong feelings together, the right kind of bad with the wrong kind of good, and you'll wind up with a total breakdown." - The Caterpillar

90's Cheifin'

Happy Happy Friday fashion goers! So lately, my fixations have been drenched in 90's hip hop. It's been absolutely interesting for me to actually sit down and hear how hip hop has evolved over these past couple of decades. If you choose to do the same, don't be surprised if you become slightly disappointed once you start to notice the difference. Hip hop has evolved from a people's movement to a substance so materialized. It has started to revolve around the concept of making hits rather than sharing a series of testimonies for the good of the people. So today, I decided to celebrate my current inspirations on The Stares with a 90's inspired outfit dedicated to the late greats and today's revivers of the beloved art of hip hop.

Bringing back the backwards cap.

Unfortunately, I found these acid-wash shorts at the very end of the summer, so I didn't get the chance to sport them the way I would've liked to. But when I was piecing together my ensemble today, I found that they harmonized so well with urban vibe I was looking to achieve. It just flowed! Better late than never, right? Just because the weather has changed doesn't mean you have put all your summer clothes in a box. Fashion is an art, not a pile of laundry to be labeled in boxes. That's the beauty of style - it's yours to do what you want with it.

I love this jacket. With all my heart. From the colors to the vintage, 90's retro style of it. I knew I wasn't leaving the store without it. Now I can't say I'm a Chief's fan (or much of a football kind of girl at that), but it definitely made me feel like one!
A go to pair of combat boots are a must in any girl's closet!

It's never too late to start learning your history. I didn't even know too much about the greats of 90's rap until about a week ago, and I've just been fascinated ever since. Everyday is a learning opportunity, so I've started using my free time to educate myself in early hip hop and today's great current underground artists looking for a voice. Stay tuned for my up and coming posts about my finds...

Thanks for continuing this journey with me on The Stares my young phenoms. We've only just begun.

Nunchuck Lovin - Doja Cat

It's been a while since I've come across a new artist that has really made me sit and say to myself "Wow. They've got an original sound that they can truly call their own." Meet Doja Cat, my current obsession of the relevant times. This songstress may be new on the scene, but her music is nothing you can call rookie material. With a strong following already on SoundCloud, her hit song "So High" already has over 500,000 views on youtube alone! If you love the mellow sounds of Jhene Aiko or Kelela (with just a hint rap), then you'll love the enchanting vibes that Doja Cat sends in her new EP "Purrr!". And if you love her music, you'll definitely love her psychedelic, Cali inspired style. Take a look...
But what about these glamorous nails and groovy specs?
And you know if you're going to look like a rockstar off the stage, then you might as well look like a rockstar on the stage, too!
Stellar wardrobe.
Believe me guys and dolls. You do not want to overlook this artist. It's no question that Doja Cat is one to Take the Stares in style, sound, and originality. So if you haven't downloaded the EP yet, here, I'll save you the trip: "Purrr!" EP . Thanks for the stellar vibes, Doja. See you at the top of the Stares.
