Aztec Dip-Dye Shorts

Happy DIY Friday fashion fiends! The summer's not over yet, so why not make your own cute pair of Aztec shorts to go out with a bang in? Follow these simple steps to give your shorts some Aztec flair!

What You'll Need:
  • Any old pair of shorts
  • Latex gloves
  • A ruler
  • Scissors
  • A sharpie
  • Black paint
  • A pen
  • Paper to make the blueprint of your design or to create a stencil
    • If you choose to create a stencil, you'll need black spray paint
  • Bleach (NOT concentrated)
  • A large bin

Step 1
Fill your bin with bleach until the bottom is completely covered. Slightly tip the bin (as shown below) so that the bottom of your shorts will be completely submerged in the bleach. Using your latex gloves, fold your shorts in half and rest only the bottom half in the bleach. Let them sit for 20 - 30 minutes, or it has discolored to your liking.

Keep an eye on your shorts while they're sitting in the bleach so you can decide how much discoloration you'd like them to have. Jazmyn decided to have her shorts completely white.

And they will look something like this....

Step 2
Throw your shorts in the dryer for 20 - 30 minutes. While your shorts or drying, use your paper and pen to draw the design you'd like to have on your shorts onto your sheet of paper, or to make your stencil.

After your shorts are done drying, use your ruler and pen to copy the design onto your shorts.

If you have your own stencil already made, simply place the stencil on the side(s) of your shorts you want designed, and paint/spray paint away!

You can use your black sharpie to begin outlining your design, just so it'll be easier to fill in with paint later.

Step 3
Repeat step two for any other sides of your shorts you want designed. Then, fill in your completed design with the black paint.

Vwah-lah! Now you have a rockin pair of Aztec shorts!! Thanks Jaz!

Here are a couple of other cute designs that I loved that you could also incorporate onto your shorts!
